NEW SUPERVISORS’ ORIENTATION

REQUIREMENTS OF STUDENT TEACHERS Attendance at seminars Attendance at school assignment Attendance at school functions Seminar assignments Set up observation/conferences Capstone Project: edTPA

ATTENDANCE AT SEMINARS Mandatory Excused absences (illness or family emergencies) – use your best judgment Make up excused absences: See syllabus Grading policy

Attendance daily at school is expected. Vacation days coincide with the school district NOT the CU vacations. For illness/family or personal emergencies, the ST MUST notify the CT as early as possible as well as the school office, and the supervisor. The ST must leave lesson plans for anything they teach. Attendance is mandatory on T work days or professional development inservices. Recommend attending special events at the school as long as they don’t conflict with seminars. Talk about P/T conferences—conflict with seminars (mention this to CT as well) ATTENDANCE AT SCHOOL

SEMINARS Seminars are advertised as Wednesdays after school – usually 4-6PM. Supervisors and STs can adjust day and times, if all agree. 9 more seminars are required but you may count 2 special events and hold only 7 more. There may be some on-campus joint seminars which may count as well. Topics are up to you. Feel free to adjust each semester based on needs/wants of STs but edTPA will be part of seminars at beginning. Content of seminar meetings as well as syllabus and grading are up to each seminar instructor/supervisor. Your grading policy must be stated in the syllabus.

OBSERVATIONS/CONFERENCES 5 observations are REQUIRED. May be scheduled or surprise visits. More are required if ST is struggling. An additional visit is required at the beginning of the semester with the CT and ST (triad meeting). The third observation could be combined with the mid-term evaluation that must include the CT. A final evaluation conference must be held and include the CT. Feedback conferences should follow the observations. Schedule observations to be spread throughout the semester. An observation document must be written up and shared with ST.

What do supervisors do? Attends supervisor meetings (see monthly calendars) Observes/conferences with student teachers Plans and conducts seminars Provides ethical support of edTPA work Turns in documentation at end of semester ( ST files – provided later in semester) Meets/communicates with cooperating teachers

COOPERATING TEACHERS It is a nice gesture for you to send an introducing yourself and mentioning the initial meeting. Set up an initial meeting in the first two weeks with CT and ST. Hold mid-term and final conferences with CT and ST to go over the Colorado Teacher Evaluation Form. CTs may choose 2 hours (1 hour) of continuing education credit (we pay the tuition) or $100 (for one semester). CTs responsibilities if they choose credit (most of which is what they should do anyway). We will provide their syllabus and documents for registering. Many districts allow these 2 hours for salary credit. Can be used for CDE recertification.

DOCUMENTATION On your desk-top, make a file folder for each ST. Keep the following documents in the folders. Send the folders to the Administrative Assistant at the end of the semester. Observation forms (minimum of 5) Colorado Teacher Evaluation Rubric(mid-term and final). Initialed, verification that ST met requirements at a level 3. This serves as the mid-term and final evaluations for both the CT and the Supervisor. Make sure the ST receives a copy of this document. Letter of recommendation – if you want
