1 Coordinator of Field Placements
S.T. Requirements Mrs. Staci Fuqua, Coordinator of Field Placements UT Martin Spring, 2019

2 S.T. Assignments in Canvas
All assignments for student teaching are located in Canvas. Maintain a notebook containing a collection of materials that will serve as documentation of experiences and activities provided for student learners by you, the classroom teacher. This items will serve as a great reference in the future. SAVE all documents you create and upload in Canvas to a jump drive or external hard drive!

4 Reflection Requirements
Reflections are required for formal observations by U.S. and C.T. Utilize the ”Guide for S.T. Reflections of Formal TEAM Observation” (website) Be certain to address all components within the guide and you should have everything covered!

5 II. Lesson Plan Template & Lesson Plan GUIDE
You must use the Lesson Plan Template and provided online. Word docs available now! When formally observed by US or CT, you will be required to provide lesson plans as follows: One for the day before, the day of, and the day after each evaluation by the US. This must be provided to the US (or CT if CT observation) prior to the lesson being taught. Deadlines will be provided by your US. These lesson plans must be uploaded in Canvas! Lesson Plan GUIDE- What is it?

6 Lesson Plans Lesson plans are required for EACH day you are teaching. That means you will have many more than the 12 required for your formal observations. PreK-3 and K-5 majors will have to complete a lesson plan template for EACH subject you teach. This will take a considerable amount of planning and time. Middle, Secondary, and K-12 majors will have to complete lesson plans EACH day BUT because they are not teaching ALL subjects, they will have less than the PreK-3 and K-5 majors.

7 What if my CT says I don’t have to do a lesson plan like this?
The answer is: “My University requires that I complete all lesson plans using this format.” The format and rigor with which you will be completing lesson plans is required. Believe me, you will be thankful that you are well planned. Following this format will ensure that you have enough content and help you learn how to pace, how to make adjustments, and complete edTPA task assignments.

8 Other Lesson Plans SAVE any lesson plans you prepare during student teaching including those used for formal observations. There will be several! If you’re teaching, you should have lesson plans.  I recommend you have a “Lesson Plans” tab in your notebook. You must use the required lesson plan template at all times. Supervisors will spot-check your notebook for these when they observe you to be certain you are using template. You can NEVER use a “plan book” in lieu of the formal lesson plan format. You do not have enough experience teaching for this to work.

9 CT Checklist for Walk-Thru Observations
Cooperating teachers are requested to do a “walk-thru” observation once a week. Here’s the form (located in CT packet) IF your CT does not do one each week, do not panic. We can’t require them to complete but we do ask that they do this to give you the feedback you need on a weekly basis. S.T. needs to ask C.T. each week. Place all copies of the “CT Checklist for Walk-Thru” forms completed by in your notebook. Your US may ask to see them during your observation visit.

10 Observation Checklist
Click here: Observation Checklist Form **You may print additional copies from the ESS website. choose “Residency II” then “Forms”

11 Student Teacher Daily Attendance Log
In LiveText, you will “log” hours for every day you are present during the student teaching semester. Your CT will approve this in LiveText. Instructions for how to log hours in LiveText will be ed when LiveText sections are complete 1st week of January. **You may have utilized this feature during field exp. NOTE: Don’t panic if log doesn’t register 300 hrs by end of each placement. Just complete it DAILY!!!! NOT weekly.

12 Weekly Email Reflections
Students must U.S. each week by Saturday at 9pm. Responses to questions with less than 400 words are not acceptable. This is meant to be an exercise in sharing your thoughts so you can improve from week to week. Please address the following questions each week. Be descriptive! 1. What did you learn about yourself this week? 2. What things could you have done differently? 3. What are your struggles or concerns? 4. What have been positive highlights this week? 5. What are your goals for next week? 6. Anything else you would like to share!

13 Weekly Email Reflections
Your US will provide the deadline for this requirement. It may be different than Saturday evening.   NOTE: Your US may ask you to complete the “Weekly Reflection” requirement via “Discussion Board” in Canvas instead of via . If so, that is also acceptable. All Canvas Discussion Board reflections are confidential and only visible to the University Supervisor.

14 Deadline every Thursday by 9pm.
Weekly Schedule As a means of helping your university supervisor in planning tentative visiting schedules, you are asked to assist in this task by submitting a Weekly Schedule periodically during the student teaching experience. Each Thursday evening, you are expected to in a schedule for the next complete week (Monday-Friday). Sample schedules plus blank forms are available at (student teaching forms). Be sure to mark each activity as to the extent of your responsibility. “O” means you are observing, a passive onlook; “P” means participating, but without the ultimate responsibility; “T” means you are teaching, or have the responsibility. If you are giving tests or for some reason the class will not meet (assembly program, pep rally, etc.), please denote on the schedule. If there are special activities or problems that need to be brought to the attention of your university supervisor, use the space designated comments and activities. Weekly Schedule to your university supervisor- Deadline every Thursday by 9pm. Remember: This is for the “upcoming” week so US can plan their schedule. Completion of the Weekly Schedule is one of several written reports that you are asked to submit to your university supervisor. These reports enable the university supervisor to offer needed guidance, determine progress, give assistance, and enrich your student teaching where needed. Also, it gives some indication of your ability to cope with routine reports and your facility with written English. Both of the items are often asked about if recommendations are requested by school systems.
