Human Body Systems Review Week – 2/29 – 3/4

Day 1 – Looking at Question Structures The focus for today’s review is looking at the structure of questions. We are going to focus on how to break questions down and determine what is being asked.

The key to answering test questions correctly is UNDERSTANDING WHAT IS BEING ASKED. What is the question asking?

In order to truly understand what is being asked, you need a strong understanding of the VOCABULARY words. Let’s look at an example together. Understanding the Question

What system has to do with “airway”, “larynx”, and “lungs”? Think about the words you do know – don’t let yourself get stuck on the word “larynx”.

What key words are in the question? What is question really saying and what is really being asked?

Day 2 – Focus on Vocabulary Today’s lesson is going to review vocabulary for this unit. You will need your science notebook and vocabulary cards.

Vocabulary Cards Students need to create vocabulary cards for the following words – this may already be done. If students have already made their cards – have them separate them from the others and read through their definitions. - DNA- Genes- Instinct - Inherited trait- Learned behavior - Trait- Acquired trait - Organisms - offspring- Heredity

Vocabulary Sort 1.Students should sort their vocabulary cards into related piles. For example, acquired trait and learned behavior might go together because they are not natural. They must be taught or learned. 2.Talk with a partner – create a sentence explaining the relationship between 3 of the vocabulary words. 3.Write a paragraph using all of the vocabulary words that shows how the words are connected to one another.

Day 3: Kahoot Today’s lesson will be a short “Kahoot!” after a quick probe to help get our minds thinking!

Digestive System Probe Using the document camera, display the probe “Digestive System”. Read the probe together as a class. Allow students time to think and jot their ideas in their science notebooks. After a few minutes, discuss everyone’s thoughts. Suggested answers and reasoning are on the next slide.

Reasoning for “Digestive System” Sasha has the best answer. The digestive system has two main roles – while Harriet is correct the digestive system does break food down into small pieces – she does not completely explain the role of the DS. Mina’s answer is incorrect because the DS does not release energy from food, instead it breaks food down into molecules that can be absorbed by cells and used to release energy from the cell.

All students should log in to their own device to play the game. There are only 8 questions. After you play the game through as usual, go back over the questions and really look at the questions and what is being asked. You may need to log in to the game a second time to look back over the questions. For Kahoot!...

Day 4: Test Prep Practice Students are going to complete a test prep practice quiz today. Afterwards, they should continue reviewing their vocabulary.
