Sometimes a story is about a lesson, or something the author wants us to learn. We use the key details to find out the central message or lesson of the story.

central message: the big idea of a story lesson: what the author wants the reader to learn from a story. key details: important pieces of information that support the central message or lesson of a story. moral: practical lesson taught in a fable or tale.
