CSHGP—Initially for CSHGP PVOs/NGOs to strengthen their ability to reach some of the most underserved populations in developing countries; emphasis for equity considerations included in RFA and CORE Group— Fall & Spring Meetings (Fall meeting 09; Gender Equity Spring 10; Fall meeting 10, Spring meeting 2011) “Equity in Health: Ensuring Access, Increasing Use” with Keynote Speaker published author Anirudh Krishna and Equity Video MCHIP—Relevance for MCHIP country programs (included in workplan development, Yr3 activity planning including Equity Checklist) Health Equity Guidance & Checklist

Checklist: Six- Step Process: 1.Understand the equity issues in the project area 2.Identify the disadvantaged group on which to focus 3.Decide what is in project’s manageable interest to change 4.Define equity goals, objectives, and a project-specific definition of equity 5.Determine equity strategies and activities 6.Develop equity-focused M&E

Care Group & CHW Performance TAGs CSHGP—Featured and participated in TAGs, highlighting community-oriented projects with CHWs, learning around CHW systems, linkages to larger USAID and global efforts CORE Group—Linking Care Group TAG to explore questions around scale-up and linkages to national CHW systems; leading task force on Community Health systems and program learning mechanisms to facilitate continuous learning on CHW issues MCHIP—Hosted TAGs and are linking next steps to planning and focus on CHWs at national scale

Key Messages Care Groups are not meant to replace CHWs but they provide a means to extend the reach of CHWs to achieve high levels of household level behavior change associated with mortality reduction. Implementation of Care Groups at scale requires partnership with MOH, NGOs and communities.
