7 th Grade Math Vocabulary Word, Definition, Model Emery Unit 2

UNIT 2 Definition: A Definition: A mathematical phrase that can contain ordinary numbers, variables (like x or y) and operators (like add, subtract, multiply, and divide). Model: Algebraic Expression

UNIT 2 Definition: The numerical factor in a term. The number next to the variable, multiplied by the variable. Model: Coefficient

UNIT 2 Definition: A number with no variable next to it. A fixed value. Model: Constant

UNIT 2 Definition: Definition: The Distributive Property says that multiplying a number by a group of numbers added together is the same as doing each multiplication separately. Model: Distributive Property

UNIT 2 Definition: When you set two expressions equal to each other. It implies that both sides of the equals sign are equivalent. Model: Equation

UNIT 2 Definition: When two expressions have the same value. Model : 2x = x + x Equivalent Expression

UNIT 2 Definition: A number that can be divided from the given value evenly. Model: The factors of 42 are 6 and 7 or 2, 3, 7. 3x = 3 * x So the factors of 3x are 3 and x. Factor

UNIT 2 Definition: A statement that two values are not equal. Usually tells us which value is greater. Model: Inequality

UNIT 2 Definition: An expression that has variables with the highest exponent being 1. Model: 3x + 7 Linear Expression

UNIT 2 Definition: The highest number or value in a given set or on a graph. Model: Maximum

UNIT 2 Definition: The smallest value in a set or lowest point on a graph. Model: Minimum

UNIT 2 Definition: A group of known values that represent a situation. Model: Numeric Expression

UNIT 2 Definition: A number that can be made into a fraction or ratio. Model: Rational Number

UNIT 2 Definition: A Definition: A single number or variable, or numbers and variables multiplied together. Terms are separated by + or − signs. Model: Term
