Welcome to Mrs. Varlotta’s Math Class Introduction Objective/Homework/Warm-Up Textbook Overview

Math Notebook Must be a spiral notebook Must be brought to and from home and class each day All work MUST be completed in pencil Each day a student comes into class the date, objective, warm-up, class notes, and classwork are completed in the math notebook. Homework is completed in the math notebook This notebook is a great way for parents to review with students math concepts taught daily.

Mrs. Varlotta’s Math Homework Policy All Homework MUST be completed in pencil Homework should include the following: –Date –Assignment –DIRECTIONS!!! –Written out problems

Grading Policy Grades are calculated according to the following percentages: Classwork………………30% Homework…………...…10% Quizzes……………..….30% Tests………..…………..20% Participation/Preparedness…….10% Students are encouraged to keep track of grades

Tests: –Usually 2-3 per quarter –Howard County Quarterly Assessment given at the quarter –Study Guides will be given with tests Quizzes: –Usually once a week –Notebook quizzes 2-3 times per quarter –Students will always be made aware of quizzes and concepts on quiz Tests & quizzes are glued into math notebook and signed by parent/guardian for HW credit. Tests & Quizzes

Pre-Algebra Quarter 1: –Rational Numbers/Number Relationships –Evaluate expressions and inequalities Quarter 2 –Ratios, Rates, Proportions –Expressions, Equations, Inequalities Quarter 3 –Geometry –Measurement Quarter 4 (Beginning Algebra) –Knowledge of Number Relationships –Computation/Arithmetic –Knowledge of Algebra, Patterns, Functions
