SLOVAKIA “Little Big Country”

Our country Slovakia is inland country in the Central Europe. It’s bordered by five countries: Czech Republic, Austria, Hungary,Ukraine and Poland. The capital city is Bratislava. It’s also called “The Heart of Europe” because of it’s location. Slovakia is a member of EU, NATO, United Nations and the others. The first reference about Slovakia comes from records of Samo’s Empire.

Our country For that small country like Slovakia is, it has very rich culture and history. Slovakia has a lot of castles, mansions, monasteries and churches. Many of them belongs to buildings from Austrian-Hungary Empire. One of the most popular castles is the Spiš Castle. Bratislava, the capital city, has it’s own castle, too. It’s Bratislava Castle.

Our town Vráble is town in Nitra region. It lies in south- western Slovakia. The first written reference is from 1265 as Verebel. Vráble was important point of anti-ottoman Defense. In 1624 fort was built- also known as “Zemný Hrad”- Fidvár. In the 1653 the defense has been broken and Verebel has been looted.

Our town Vráble has only one church, the neoromance Church of Saint Mary the Virgin. It has been built in Territory of Vráble is crossed by the river Žitava. River Žitava flows into the river Nitra.

Our town In Horný Ohaj, the district of Vráble, open-air museum is located. The name of the museum is Mašek’s Mill. It comes from twentieth century. It was finished in In the Second World War the Mill was used as hideout for refugees. Nowadays it’s used only for visiting.

Our school Základná škola s Materskou školou Lúky is elementary school with kindergarden in Vráble. It was built in 1983 in part of the town called Lúky. The school has big complex of various sport fields used for playing football, hockeyball and basketball. We also have skateboard ramp. There are two gyms at our school.

Our school Our school is equipped with modern technologies like two interactive boards or new computer class. Students can use laboratory for learning foreign languages, science laboratory, kitchen and workshop. School also participates in many projects like international project Comenius.
