Zonta International Foundation Change a life today!

 Globally, gender-based violence is the most pervasive and least recognized human rights violation.  Rooted in inequality, it affects women of every race, class, culture, ethnicity, age and country.  ZI strives to promote and protect the human rights of all women and girls and reduce the incidence of violence through the ZISVAW program.

 1 in 3 women are affected by violence in their lifetime  More than 50% of sexual assaults committed are against girls under 16 years  Globally, 64 million girls are child brides  140 million have undergone female genital mutilation

 Supporting prevention and advocacy strategies locally and internationally.  Awarding grants to UN agencies for projects that seek to change the knowledge, attitudes and behaviour contributing to gender-based violence.  Increasing awareness and actions relating to preventing violence against women by encouraging Zonta clubs involvement in advocacy and service projects.

 RESPECTING THE RIGHTS AND RESPONDING TO THE NEEDS OF ADOLESCENT GIRLS IN NIGER  VOICES AGAINST VIOLENCE

 Non-formal education curriculum for the World Education curriculum for the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts on ending violence against women and girls (WAGGGS)

 Curriculum teaches ages 5 – 25, to understand gender-based violence and its root causes, identify various forms of violence prevalent globally and in their communities and explore solutions  Delivered by 200 national trainers from 30 countries at 4 regional workshops funded by ZI  Trainers return home and train at least 3000 additional youth leaders and educators

 Has been 4 successful Training of Trainers workshops  Final workshop attended by 47 national trainers from 9 countries (francophone African countries)  100% exhibited increased knowledge and awareness of issue as a human rights violation  88% showed increased understanding of gender equality and equity issues

 94% showed improved awareness and attitude about harmful practices eg. female genital mutilation  97% showed improved attitude about gender roles and care work at home  Attended by D18 Governor who made all aware of Zonta’s contribution to the project, our mission, our vision and our work for a better world for women
