Heroines in the 20 th Century Progression in media/literature?

Heroines in the 21 st Century

Formal Comparison Compare the following texts: ● How the Good Wife Taught Her Daughter- a 14 th century “ conduct” poem that was popular in the middle ages (you will have to navigate through the dialect and language which is specific to the time period---see if any of the words and phrases have remained the same) ● The Good House Wife's Guide from a 1950's home economics textbook intended for high school girls Tasks: 1. Highlight key words/phrases that depict the values/attitudes placed on women (5 pts.) 2. Provide commentary in the margins in regards to what you have highlighted or discussed within your groups. (5 pts.) 3. Create a Venn diagram comparison chart that compares and contrasts the two literary pieces and the attitudes/values placed on women today. Answer the question: What are some of the expectations of women from each time period?

The Next Step ● In comparing these two texts, you may have noticed how the words in the passages are a reflection of the attitudes held about the expectations of women -What were some of the ideas/comments you made about each text?
