IOP: TIPS FOR SUCCESS Decide on your material. – Pick a text that you like – Choose a focus that interests you

IOP: TIPS FOR SUCCESS Select the most appropriate extracts to demonstrate your points of view. – The extracts you choose should be the most appropriate to highlight the points you want to make. – Make sure that you focus on literary techniques in the extract and explain their effect. – Refer to the text. Include examples and well-incorporated quotations.

IOP: TIPS FOR SUCCESS Rehearse– again and again – and TIME IT. – You should sound confident, self assured. – Face the audience. – Make sure to make eye contact - throughout. – You are NOT allowed to read from a script Notes should only be lightly referred to not read the whole way through. – You should sound interested in your own presentation – vary tone and gesture. – Power point presentations should be there to refer to not to rely on. – You must fulfill time requirements or you will be penalized.

IOP: TIPS FOR SUCCESS You will be asked questions at the end of your presentation. – Make sure that you come up with a list of possible questions you might be asked and think about the answers. – Make sure you understand how the extract fits into your understanding of the rest of the novel. – PREPARE.

IOP: TIPS FOR SUCCESS Engage the audience – where will you stand / how you will move around the room? – how will you make your powerpoint or visual aid as engaging as possible? Not just a list of bullet points on the board Good use of text – but don’t just read the text Good, purposeful use of images – how are you going to alter the pace, volume and tone of your voice at key points to create interest? – How are you going to use body language and eye contact to create interest? – Will you use any other audio-visual aids (e.g. music, movie clips)

IOP: TIPS FOR SUCCESS Prepare all the materials you will need for your presentation AHEAD OF TIME.
