In 1996, countries at the World Food Summit agreed that: ‘Food security exists when all people, at all times, have physical and economic access to sufficient, safe and nutritious food to meet their dietary needs and food preferences for an active and healthy lifestyle.’

An Ecological Footprint is a measure of how much productive land and water they require to produce all the resources they consume and to absorb all the waste they generate, using prevailing technology. It is measured in global hectares.

Average Australian has ecological footprint of 7.7 hectares or 4.2 planets. Fair resource use is 1.8 ha per person. Food is approx. 48% of our footprint.

Australian Orange juice 2,024km Lettuce 54k Beef 298km Fresh milk 348km Tinned baked beans 3,132km Oranges from California 12, 879km Oranges from Australia 567km Tomatoes from your back yard 10m HOW FAR DOES OUR FOOD TRAVEL FROM THE FARM TO OUR TABLE??
