STUDENT LED CONFERENCES PAGE 1 and 2

Creates a meaningful conference connecting your T-2-4 plan (post-high school) and adds parent involvement in the registration process. A student‐led conference allows you to take the lead on sharing progress, course planning, discussing next steps, and setting goals with your parents. REVIEW OF PURPOSE

SLC DOCUMENTS To support your SLC discussion with your parent(s) and Seminar teacher, you will complete four documents between now and February: 1. Progress Check on your classes/career goals 2. Enrichment Activities you are engaged in 3. Course/Registration Planning 4. Final Registration Form Today’s Focus Finish First

PAGE 1 - PROGRESS CHECK Finish Page 1 before moving on to Page 2. If you do not know your login/password for PowerSchool, your teacher has access to the information. If your room doesn’t have access to multiple computers, use cell phones or the teacher computer. Questions from last week: When will PSAT results arrive? College Board experienced nationwide delays with scoring. We hope to have the results within a week or two. When the results arrive, you will enter the information. For Cumulative GPA, do I use the weighted one? Yes, the official Cumulative GPA includes weighted grades.

PAGE 2 - ENRICHMENT ACTIVITIES Research has shown that participation in enrichment has many benefits. Students who take part in extracurricular activities are: 20% more likely to earn a bachelor’s degree 15% higher standardized test scores 20% higher GPA 14% decrease in unexcused absences Your accomplishments outside the classroom show what you’re passionate about and that you have qualities valued by colleges and employers. How you spend your free time reveals a lot about you - in ways that grades and test scores can’t. References:

PAGE 2 - ENRICHMENT ACTIVITIES References: Yale Dean of Undergrad Admissions on the value of enrichment activities (1:30)

PAGE 2 - ENRICHMENT ACTIVITIES Enrichment Activity Section: Answer each prompt and be as detailed as possible. Be sure to answer all parts of the prompt.

PAGE 2 - ENRICHMENT ACTIVITIES Reflection Questions Section: Answer each prompt and be as detailed as possible. Be sure to answer all parts of the prompt.

RETURNING DOCUMENT PACKET RETURN RETURN your document packet to your Seminar teacher. It is important that these documents do not leave the classroom to prevent them from being misplaced.

NEXT WEEK - REGISTRATION! In Seminar next week, we will begin the registration process. January 12 - Core classes January 19 - Electives January 26 - Transcript analysis (for 10 th /11 th grades only, 9 th graders do not have a transcript yet because 1 st semester has not ended)

GEAR UP TIP OF THE WEEK: Thursday, January 7 - 6:00-8:00 pm FINANCIAL AID NIGHT including Scholarship Strategies, Financial Planning & FAFSA workshops!
