LEARN AND EARN INITIATIVE

INITIATIVE THE LEARN AND EARN INITIATIVE IS A TECHNOLOGY BASED INITIATIVE THAT WILL ENHANCE THE YOUTH ABILITY TO USE TECHNOLOGY IN THE 21 ST CENTURY. THE YOUTH NEED TO BE ABLE TO USE TECHNOLOGY OUTSIDE OF THE CLASSROOM. THE YOUTH IN MY COMMUNITY HAVE NO OTHER RESOURCES THAT WILL ALLOW THEM TO USE TECHNOLOGY. MANY STUDENTS HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS REQUIRE THEM TO USE THE TECHNOLOGY AND THIS WILL ENABLE THEM TO DO SO. VISION THE VISION STATEMENT OF THE INITIATIVE IS BUILDING AND COMMUNICATING A TECHNOLOGICAL PROGRAM THAT WILL PREPARE THE YOUTH TO LIVE AND WORK IN THE 21 ST CENTURY. THE USE OF MEDIA AND TECHNOLOGY WILL HELP IMPROVE YOUTH ACHIEVEMENT AT SCHOOL AND HOME. TECHNOLOGY WILL ENHANCE LEARNING AND YOUTH CAN DEVELOP AND APPLY ESSENTIAL INFORMATION LITERACY SKILLS IN TODAY’S DIGITAL WORLD. THE YOUTH WILL BE ABLE TO WORK COLLABORATIVELY IN APPLYING CRITICAL THINKING, PROBLEM-SOLVING, AND LITERACY SKILLS TOGETHER WHEN CONNECTING TECHNOLOGY TO REAL WORLD PROBLEMS. MISSION THE MISSION STATEMENT OF THE INITIATIVE IS TO INSPIRE YOUTH TO BE RESILIENT, RESPONSIBLE, AND PERSONALLY SUCCESSFUL THROUGH THE USE OF TECHNOLOGY IN THE 21 ST CENTURY. ENCOURAGING THE YOUTH TO LEARN THROUGH COLLABORATION WITH FAMILY AND COMMUNITY. ENSURING THAT THE YOUTH CAN ADAPT TO THE CHALLENGES OF THE 21 ST CENTURY THROUGH THE ACCESS AND UTILIZATION OF TECHNOLOGY. YOUTH WILL BE ABLE TO GATHER, USE, AND COMMUNICATE INFORMATION IN ORDER TO MAKE RESPONSIBLE DECISIONS AS CITIZENS. THE YOUTH WILL GAIN ESSENTIAL SKILLS THROUGH THE USE OF TECHNOLOGY THAT WILL EXTEND BEYOND THE CONTENT AND FOSTER LIFELONG GROWTH.

OVERVIEW OF 40 DEVELOPMENTAL ASSETS THE INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL ASSETS WILL PLAY A MAJOR ROLE IN THE OPERATION OF THE LEARN AND EARN INITIATIVE. FIRST THE YOUTH WILL EXPERIENCE SUPPORT FROM BEING SURROUNDED BY PEOPLE WHO LOVE, CARE FOR, APPRECIATE, AND ACCEPT THEM (FISHER, 2008). WE WILL EMPOWER OUR YOUTH TO BE THE BEST THAT THEY CAN BE. INSTILLING IN THEIR MINDS THAT EACH AND EVERY PERSON HAS A VALUABLE PLACE TO HOLD IN SOCIETY. THE YOUTH WILL LEARN HOW TO CONSTRUCTIVELY USE THEIR TIME WISELY BY PARTICIPATING IN POSITIVE LEARNING EXPERIENCES. THE STUDENTS WILL USE THIS INITIATIVE AS AN EXTENSION OUTSIDE OF THE SCHOOL. EXTERNAL SUPPORT WILL COME FROM THEIR FAMILIES COACHING THEM TO BE A PART OF SUCH A GREAT MOVEMENT. THE YOUTH WILL LEARN THAT THE NEIGHBORHOOD CARE ABOUT THEIR FUTURE AND ARE WILLING TO MAKE SACRIFICES. THE YOUTH WILL HAVE A SAFE PLACE TO GO AND ENGAGE AMONGST THEIR PEERS TO LEARN AND GROW TOGETHER. FURTHERMORE, THE YOUTH WILL WATCH THE ADULTS WORK TOGETHER IN THIS INITIATIVE TO BUILD A STRONG COMMUNITY OF PEOPLE CAPABLE OF SUSTAINING A STRONG COMMUNITY OF LEARNERS.

RESEARCH GRAPHIC OF CHINQUAPIN NORTH CAROLINA RESEARCH DATA SHOWN IN 2012 SHARES THE POPULATION BY RACE FOR CHINQUAPIN, NC WITH A GREATER NUMBER OF WHITE AMERICANS. COMPARED TO THE WHITE AMERICAN'S THE BLACK AMERICAN'S FOLLOW WITH ABOUT 15% OF THE TOTAL POPULATION. AMERICAN INDIANS ARE AROUND 2%, ASIANS 4%, MULTI-RACIAL 1%, AND OTHER 5%. THESE STATISTICS WERE COMPARED TO THE NUMBERS FOR BOTH NORTH CAROLINA AND THE UNITED STATES.

ILLUSTRATION OF THE LEARN AND EARN INITIATIVE THE LEARN AND EARN INITIATIVE IS ONE THAT WILL BE OF GOOD USE TO THE YOUTH IN MY COMMUNITY. THE INITIATIVE WILL ALLOW STUDENTS TO USE THE COMPUTER AS A LEARNING TOOL. IN RETURN THE STUDENTS WILL EARN THE SKILLS TO BECOME A BETTER STUDENT AND BETTER CITIZEN OF THE COMMUNITY. THE PROGRAM WILL ALLOW THE YOUTH TO HAVE ACCESS TO COMPUTERS, PRINT ITEMS, SEARCH THE WEB, AND LIMITED PERSONAL USE.

MY THOUGHTS OF THE LEARN AND EARN INITIATIVE PERSONALLY, I FEEL THAT THE LEARN AND EARN INITIATIVE IS THE MOST POSITIVE THING THAT MY COMMUNITY CAN UTILIZE. THE YOUTH IN MY COMMUNITY NEED SOME PLACE TO GO AND ACTIVELY ENGAGE THEMSELVES ACADEMICALLY. THE SCHOOL WILL BE ABLE TO APPRECIATE SUCH A PROGRAM THAT WILL BE ACADEMICALLY AND PERSONALLY REWARDING.

“ ” AT THE HEART OF EFFECTIVE TECHNOLOGY INTEGRATION TECHNOLOGY OFFERS OPPORTUNITIES TO BE MORE ACTIVELY INVOLVED IN THE LEARNING EXPERIENCES. BY: VANESSA VEGA EUDTOPIA RESEARCH ANALYSIS INSPIRING STUDENTS THROUGH TECHNOLOGY
