Introduction (Your Hook or Attention Grabber) – Introduces you and your message to the audience. – Purpose Body – Conveys the message – Discuss main points (3-5) – Provide supporting details – Educate/ entertain the audience Conclusion – Tell them what you’re going to tell them, tell them, tell them again in summary, and GET OF THE STAGE.

The first step… Be Prepared Take deep breaths Slow your breathing / pause between sentences Get the audience engaged – What’s you hook: joke, poem, object or story. Walk around – use your energy Face your fears

The Art of Speaking

Speak clearly. Do not rush through the presentation. Do not speak in a monotone voice. Do not talk slowly. Speech and Voice

Use variation in – Loudness Helps provide emphasis and attention – Pitch Low and high pitch Creates interest – Quality Provides emotion and feeling

Body Language Posture Shows confidence Not too rigid – locked knees = chance to meet the floor / Relax Facial Expressions Smile/ enjoy yourself and your audience will also enjoy themselves Be serious when necessary

Body Language Eye Contact Helps establish a relationship with your audience Makes them feel included Too nervous – look directly above their heads Look for signals from your audience – do they look confused? bored? Excited? Keep your head up – Don’t talk to the floor Gestures shows confidence Use your head, hands and arms – helps to emphasize ideas and feelings Should come naturally Do not play with things in your pocket Do not use a pointer, pen, pencil or chalk to point at an individual.
