How can I help my child become organized and successful? Homework Area  A well-lit space with few distractions  A “tool caddy” to keep supplies organized  Pens, pencils, crayons, colored pencils, highlighter  Ruler  Scissors  Glue Stick Prepare for Binder Checks - Is it well-maintained/organized? - Behavior documented?  Parent signature?  Homework completed?  Graded papers section cleaned out?

What’s new in 1 st Grade ELA ?? Wonders Pacing  6 day sequence (NOT Monday-Friday)  Testing can occur on any day of the week.  Weekly Newsletter will contain reading skills/strategies, as well as weekly testing dates. Accelerated Reader— - Goals and average percent correct closely monitored. - Point goals are determined by STAR reading level. - Students MUST maintain 80% to meet goal. - AR progress reports included with mid-term reports and report cards starting the 2 nd 9- weeks.

ELA Grading Policy Assessments: 60 % Fresh Read Weekly Assessments Fresh Read Unit Assessments Fluency Assessments (3 rd 9-Weeks) Quizzes: 20 % Spelling Quizzes Sight Word Quizzes (end of unit) Classwork: 15 % Application center work will be used as a classwork grade. HW: 5 % Credit is for completion, but assignments will be checked for accuracy. Late homework will be ½ credit and no homework will be a score 0%.

1 st Grade Homework Policy Reading and Math homework is sent home on Mondays. Homework is due back to school by Friday. Homework counts towards 5% of your child’s academic subject grades. Homework is graded on completion, but will be checked for accuracy. 1 st grade homework requires adult assistance. Please read all directions to your child. Please check over your child’s homework and work with them to correct mistakes and misconceptions.
