My first homework assignment was to write an essay with the “My identity. ” The topic seemed vague so I asked the teacher what to write about. He said, “Well, I want you to explain who you are - where you are from, what you do, your hobbies. Most importantly, tell me your feelings about what ’ s important to you. What ’ s experiences in your life have affected you ? ” Following my teacher ’ s advice, I chose to write about when I started university in Japan. I felt lost and shy, but I decided that I wanted to be more popular than when I was in high school. So I tried to talk to people and I join the photography club. J: I just sat there and I was attracted by your eyes, they are so charming that I couldn’t take my eyes off you. S: Thanks for your compliments. Many people have said that to me. J: But you look like you’re enjoyable. S: Nobody is tired of praises. Right? J: That’s true! May I buy you a drink, Lady? S: Sure! You can call me Sadia. J: Sadia! What a beautiful name! It sounds like a star in the sky. S: Thanks! How about you? J: You can just remember my handsome face instead of my name.

S: Haha! You have lots of sense of humor. J: I have more things you don’t know~ S: Such as~~~~~~~? J: I can play guitar and write a song for you. S: You must be kidding. J: I mean it! I am sure that you would be attracted by my creativity. S: Let’s wait and see it. J: But, I have to understand you more deeply, like personality. S: So which kind of person you think I am?

J: I think you are an independent, smart, and frank girl with beautiful eyes. S: You are such a smooth talker. Anything else? J: And I think you are mysterious S: Mysterious? Why? J: Yeah! Issue: Some people generalize about the personalities of people from certain counties or areas. Do you think it is a good idea to generalize about groups of people like this? J: Really! So you come with your other girl friends? S: Oh! Sorry to disappoint you! I come with my boyfriend. J: Oh! Now I think I understand you more. You are really smart, smart for getting free drinks. And also mysterious, mysterious for pretending that you are single. S: You’re right! But it doesn’t mean that I am not available. J: Aha! ~I got it!
