General Rules Never run in the kitchen Be familiar with the location and use of safety equipment. Tie back long hair Remover jewelry Keep your station clutter free. No backpacks 6. Keep your station tidy

General Rules Keep cupboard doors and drawers closed. Turn off and unplug small appliances when not in use. Turn off burners when they are not in use. Never use broken equipment. Use the right tool for the job.

Fire Prevention 1. Keep paper away from hot surfaces. 2. Do not wear loose fitting clothing. 3. When cooking with fat monitor the temperature. 4. Use oven mitts and pot holders for their intended use. 5. Keep the oven clean, spills can catch fire.

Preventing Burns 1. Use oven mitts or pot holders for their intended use. 2. Be careful of wet mitts or potholders. 3. Tilt pot lids away from you to block steam. Be carful of hot spots from microwave. 5. Pull out oven rack when removing foods. 6. Keep pot handles turned toward the centre. 7. Turn off the stove when not in use.

Preventing Falls 1. Clean up spills immediately. 2. Do not stand on stools. 3. Tie up your shoe laces.

Preventing Cuts 1. Never put knives in the sink. 2. If you drop a knife, do not attempt to catch it. 3. Use the correct tool for the job. 4. Clean up broken glass immediately. 5. Be careful of the sharp edges of can lids.

Using Electrical Equipment Safely Use electrical equipment on the island away from water. Do not use electrical equipment with wet hands. 3. Do not use appliances with damaged cords. Pull the plug, not the cord. Unplug the appliance when you are changing equipment parts. 5. Turn off when not in use.

Safe Use of Household Chemicals Be aware of hazards by following the symbols. Symbol Meaning Toxic Flammable Corrosive Explosive

Safe Use of Household Chemicals Follow instructions carefully. Dispose of containers properly. Store away from food and out of the reach of children. Keep flammable products away from heat.

Safe Lifting 1. Use your knees not your back.
