Making Choices Discussion

Step 1:Brainstorm  Brainstorm a list of 20 activities you might do in a day. These don’t have to be something you do EVERY day but they might be.  Please number each activity

Step 2:Highlight  Highlight each activity with a different color following the guide below:  Yellow: Participating in the activity is totally your choice  Green: You have some choice in participating in this activity  Pink: You have no choice in whether or not you participate in this activity.

Step 3: Discuss  Which activities did you label each color and why?  Yellow: Participating in the activity is totally your choice  Green: You have some choice in participating in this activity  Pink: You have no choice in whether or not you participate in this activity.  What are our overall thoughts on how we spend our day?

Step 4: Draw conclusions  Think about our class discussion and look at what you have highlighted in the various colors.  What ideas can you take from this information?  What does this information or “data” about how you spend your day tell you.  What does this information tell you about how you spend your day, week, month, etc?  Write one solid paragraph of your observations. (6-8 quality sentences, topic sentence, support, concluding statement).
