Expressing an Opinion An opinion is a thought or belief about someone or something

Step One Take a stand on an opinion Make sure you have an opinion on the topic Choose to either AGREE or DISAGREE with the statement or topic

Step 2: Brainstorming Choose a side (agree or disagree) Then come up with reasons why – try to have specific evidence Example: Buying lottery tickets is a waste of money The money you could be spending on lottery tickets could be used towards food or clothing

Step 3: Include Transitional Terms also, again, as well as, besides, coupled with, furthermore, in addition, likewise, moreover, similarly Example: In addition, I think purchasing lottery tickets can lead to a form of addiction. The reason for this is when you buy a ticket and do not win you want to keep trying until you do.

Step 4: Concluding Sentence after all, all things considered, in conclusion, on the whole, in short, in summary, to sum up, to summarize, finally Choose a transitional term to conclude your paragraph Example: To sum up, I believe that…..
