Machine Safety Rules

Miter Saw Instructor must be present when you are using this machine. Keep wood flat and against fence Hold down wood Do not remove cut wood until blade stops Do not touch the blade guard Keep hands away from cutting area/blade

Belt Sander Have a plan, know what you want to sand Make sure your block is large enough to sand. (your block should be easy to hold and your fingers are away from the belt) Always Keep the block in contact with the table Turn the machine off when you are done

Drill Press Mark the hole and pick out the drill bit Tighten the bit in the chuck using the chuck key REMOVE Chuck Key Make sure project is secured Set Depth and make sure the drill bit wont drill into the clamp/table Turn the machine off when done.

Band Saw Relief cut allows you to cut curves Use push sticks to keep fingers away from the blade. (wood does not bleed your fingers do) Draw what you want to cut & mark relief cuts Blades do break, if that happens turn the machine off immediately Adjust The blade guard to minimize the amount of blade exposed Instructor must be present when you are using the machine

Table Router Do not use without guard in place Keep fingers outside of guard Move slowly holding down and against the fence Route end grain first (prevents chipping)

Terms Chuck - Is used to hold the drill bit in the drill press Chuck Key – Is used to tighten the chuck to hold the drill bit in place. Fence – Used to guide material when processing it (blade) Guard– A barrier that protects you from the cutting material on the machine.\ Push Stick – Used to keep you fingers away from a blade.
