FIP focus Offer a range of interventions to facilitate the change process and change the behaviour. Regular reviews and setting of new contract/plan in conjunction with individuals and professionals. This involves both challenging and supporting families with the assistance of colleagues in Hyndburn. An addition to existing services - strong links with GRIP, CSC, Schools, YPS, RSL’s, Domestic Abuse Service, Adult Services, Police.

Referrals came from CaPSS, CP team, Initial Assessment Team, Hyndburn Homes, Police, Schools and HARV – taken from Prevent panel. Strengthening Families Programmes – facilitated jointly with Lancashire Parenting Service, HARV, PRU and GRIP. 1:1 targeted sessions with parents/carers 1:1 targeted sessions with children and young people

Benefits of whole family approach Comprehensive whole family assessment undertaken – holistic approach not focussed on 1 individual. All known risks identified – use of CAADA/DASH assessment and referral to MARAC for multi-agency response. Identification of root cause of issues such as domestic abuse, alcohol misuse - and possible way forward. Skilled case workers undertaking ‘change work’ – not colluding or looking for ‘quick fix’. Children, young people and parents/carers are part of their plan of work and actively contribute to meetings. Break down in barriers to accessing support – RSL, Police, Schools etc.

Outcomes for young people removed from CP plans. 9 families sustained tenancies – previously at risk. Participation in meetings/plans. Successful Family Intervention Tenancy. 2 Parents successfully completed detox programmes and moved onto education or employment. Identification of young person being sexually exploited – co-ordinated response leading to prosecution and safety of young person. 2 parents back into employment – full time.

Educational outcomes … 26 Young people with behavioural issues 11 Young people missing education completely Opening up communication with parents and schools. 1 young adult NEET – back in education Not ‘school ready’ Hygiene issues. Routines. Sourcing financial support.

Where are we now … Currently employing 2 full time project workers. Increased caseload to reach more families. Less intensive due to lower level referrals. Surviving Teenagers – Tameside and Glossop parenting programme (level 2 to match criteria) Selection of interventions to include – 1.Work with young people at risk of sexual exploitation. 2.Work with families where domestic abuse is present. 3.Work with young people at risk of substance and alcohol misuse.

Referral criteria Referrals will be accepted for level 2 on continuum of need. Young people aged 0-19 at risk of sexual exploitation. Young people aged 0-19 at risk of substance and alcohol misuse. Young people aged 0-19 where there are domestic abuse issues within the home. Families unable to sustain a tenancy. Young people aged 0-19 engaging in anti- social behaviour. Young people aged 0-19 who are at risk of or missing education and employment. Family must live in Hyndburn.

Referral pathway Referrer assesses need via CAF Referrer sends completed CAF with parental consent to or Adelaide House, 1 Adelaide Street, Accrington BB5 2BE Representative from FIP to attend TAC and identify any support needs to be undertaken by FIP as part of the plan. Regular 6-8 weekly TAF (team around the family) meetings incorporating support plan with multi-agency sign up to their piece of work. Continued support until identified needs met.
