THEMIS Data on the THEMIS Website  Many users find it easier to locate and access THEMIS data products using the search features on the THEMIS data webpage  Go to:  The “THEMIS” option will be selected by default  To search for data products from other instruments (CTX, HiRISE, etc) using the same search tools, select the instrument from the list along the top of the page  To search for THEMIS data products, either: 1.Enter an Image ID 2.Enter your search parameters 13

THEMIS Data in JMARS (1)  The THEMIS team recommends using JMARS to locate and access THEMIS data products  JMARS is an open source geospatial information system (GIS) developed by the Mars Space Flight Facility at Arizona State University  Registration and Install Guides:  JMARS Website:  Written and video Tutorials  Frequently Ask Questions (FAQ)  Help Forums  JMARS allows users to search for observations from most Mars instruments (including THEMIS) and view their footprints overlaid on global maps  Data can be loaded and displayed within JMARS for initial analysis  Provides links for downloading the data products 16

THEMIS Data in JMARS (2)  Once in JMARS, users can search for THEMIS image footprints (stamps) by going to: “Add New Layer” -> Category=“Imagery”, “THEMIS”  Example Query:  Click “Set Lat/Lon Bounds to Main View”  will only search for footprints in the area currently displayed  Under “Image Type”, select “IR”  Under “Viewing Conditions” -> “Incidence Angle”, set the minimum value to “0” and maximum values to “90”  Will only search for daytime images  Under “Quality Parameters” -> “Image Rating”, set the minimum values to “7” and the maximum values to “7”  Will only search for highest quality images  Image ratings are only qualitative/subjective  Click “Okay” to submit the query 18

THEMIS Data in JMARS (3)  To render an image within JMARS:  Left-click on the footprint/stamp to select it  The outline will change to yellow  Right-click on the selected stamp -> “View THEMIS Stamps” -> Select the Image ID you want to view, the select image is at the top -> “Render Selected as BWS”  The browse image will be rendered in JMARS  Users can also render data products, such as:  PBT (project brightness temperature), which gives actual temperature values  D642,D875,D964 (decorrelation-stretched images using the three bands stated in the name) 21

THEMIS Data in JMARS (4)  To view the summary webpage for an image:  Left-click on the footprint/stamp to select it  The outline will change to yellow  Right-click on the selected stamp -> “View THEMIS Stamps” -> Select the image ID you want to view (highlighted image is on top) -> “Web Browse”  Your web browser will open a summary page for the selected image  This is the same summary page users can access through the viewer.mars.asu.edu website  Basic data products are available for download on the right-hand side under “Data Products”  BWS (Browse), BTR (brightness temperature record”, etc  Higher level products (ex: PBT, projected brightness temperature) are available through the PDS  JMARS can be used to identify the image IDs of interest 25
