Reading EOG Getting Prepared for Reading Allow your child to practice “endurance” reading. For children that have a hard time sitting down to read for ten minutes, push them to read for longer periods of time. Help your child to self monitor for understanding. Ask your child questions about what they are reading. Try to get them to explain the plot and describe characters’ actions. Preparing for EOGs What Can a Parent Do? Make sure students arrive early to school and have a chance to keep with their normal routines. Feeling rushed on the day of a big test will not help them to feel relaxed. Set a regular early bedtime for students. 6 to 9 year-olds require hours of sleep per night for maximum benefit year-olds require a little less at 9-10 hours of sleep. Test Day Reminders Walkertown Elementary School  Make sure your child eats a good breakfast with protein. Carbs may cause the “crash and burn” syndrome.  Encourage your child to have a positive attitude.  Remind your child that there is absolutely no cell phone use during testing sessions. Cell phone use will cause a misadministration. So, cell phones will be turned off and collected during testing sessions.  Once testing is completed and materials are collected, students will be allowed to read books or magazines.
