Curriculum Overview Maths daily –Ability grouped across the year group, keeping to Y 3 groups initially –Abacus Maths Scheme –Support at home by learning facts each half term & weekly homework English daily –Spelling/grammar from new scheme - Half termly spellings sent home –Work differentiated within class. –Extended Writing regularly –Support at home by reading, learning spellings & weekly homework Reading - in ability groups in class - novels, with discussion - ‘Rapid Reading’ individually/pairs - Reading Journals checked in school once a week

Curriculum Overview Creative Curriculum –Traders & Raiders (History focus Anglo-Saxons & Vikings) –Potions (Science focus Changing States) –Road Trip USA (Geography focus) –Blue Abyss (Art & Design focus) –1066 (History focus The Normans) –Body, Bones & Blood (Science focus) Each theme is cross curricular and the English is linked wherever possible. Reading Journal checked once a week –Spelling sheet – practice both spelling & handwriting –Homework – to be completed in Homework book Maths –Key Instant Learning Facts checked half termly –Weekly – returned to Maths teacher –Revision of number facts & tables is always helpful Please look at homework on Thursday & discuss with your child while it is fresh! Homework should be handed in on time. If homework is causing problems – please write a note on the appropriate page in the book.

If you would like to help … with reading The times are Monday, Wednesday, Thursday & Friday. 8:50 – 9:25 If you would be prepared to help with practical activities, like cooking or clay, please put your name on the list with your phone number. We will contact you.

How you can help your child: Make sure things are named. Check they know where they are going at the end of the day, club/friend’s house etc. Share books; read with/to them. Encourage your child to talk. Help your child to learn their spellings, number bonds & times tables. If in doubt, please ask us.
