Presentation transcript:

Hypertension Matthew Singer, Tristen Fisher, McKayla Miller

Hypertension -It's a condition which blood pressure in the arteries is chronically elevated. - Hypertension has been around since Egyptian Empires. -The blood pressure cuff was invented in 1986, but we didn't learn the importance of high blood pressure until the 1950's.

Signs/Symptoms: -Some signs are severe headache, fatigue or confusion, vision problems, chest pain and difficulty breathing. -When you have high blood pressure go to a doctor because you may have it. -It is Enviromental because you can control it. -You can eat healthy, exercise and go to the doctor for regular check-ups so you will know if you are at risk for hypertension.

Treatment There are 2 types of treatment can be found through either lifestyle changes or Drugs. Lifestyle Changes   Losing weight if you are overweight or obese.weight   Quitting smoking.   Eating a healthy diet, including the DASH diet (eating more fruits, vegetables, and low fat dairy products, less saturated and total fat).the DASH diet   Reducing the amount of sodium in your diet to less than 1,500 milligrams a day.   Getting regular aerobic exercise (such as brisk walking at least 30 minutes a day, several days a week).aerobic exercisewalking   Limiting alcohol to two drinks a day for men, one drink a day for women. In addition to lowering blood pressure, these measures enhance the effectiveness of high blood pressure drugs.

Treatment Drugs to Treat High Blood Pressure Some of the drugs that help with high blood pressure are.   Angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors   Angiotensin || receptor blockers (ARBs)   Diuretics   Beta-blockers   Calcium channel blockers   Alpha-blockers   Alpha-agonists   Renin inhibitors   Combination medications

Role of Diet and Exercise Diet- you have to eat a nutritious diet with less salt to help prevent hypertension. when making this diet you want to avoid trans fat a lot of sodium and add more fruits and vegetables. Exercise-If you keep yourself physically strong and manage your weight you can help prevent hypertension. To make sure you atleast have the minimum ammount of exercise you should walk atleast 30 min a day a couple days a week.

Family Family Support your family can help make you feel better about yourself and help you when you are in trouble because of it. when you have hypertension your family worries for you and they feel bad about you having hypertension. Your family may be afraid and be stressed worrying about you if you don’t correct your problem. Plus this would have a impact on you which would make you have to worry about what you eat and constantly have to manage what you do. This condition may also cause you to have very high hospital bills and this could impact you and your family's lives in the near future and in the long run.

Management of Problem: Long Term and Short Term Short-term: you can take various medicines to help decrease the risk of having hypertension. but this will only help you for some time and they are don't always work so its good to have a backup plan. Long-term: To stop Hypertension in the long run you have to adopt a plan of having a better diet and workout more often so your body can be in better shape. This way you gradually get better and it can also help improve the effectiveness of drugs if you workout.

Statistics Statistics integrated into the data: about 65 million people have high blood pressure. Over half of the people over 60 have hypertension. The risk of developing high blood pressure over a lifetime is 90%. The risk for high blood pressure starts to greatly increases when you turn the age of 45.

WOWs 1. Hypertension was discovered in ancient Egyptian mummies % of people 60 years or older have hypertension. 3. Hypertension is the same thing as high blood pressure.
