French Pastries French Pastries, 1963, Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Washington, DC, USA What about this painting helps you identify it as the work of Wayne Thiebaud?

Now, create your own dessert art. Thiebaud Style! 1. Pick a dessert subject (cake, pie, cookies, ice cream cones, donuts, other?) Something simple is best. 2. Draw a quick outline in pencil of several dessert items – use repetition and try to draw at least three of an item. Focus on the shape and outline of the object, details not needed yet. 3. Add horizon lines if you’d like. (optional) 4. Now color your dessert. Use texture and heavy pigment, like Thiebaud. (crayons are good for making texture!) 5. Consider using halation around your dessert items - intense color around the outside of your desserts. (optional) 6. Consider adding some shadows if you have time. (optional) 7. MOST IMPORTANT – HAVE FUN!
