Managed by UT-Battelle for the Department of Energy Presentation_name The makeover of the Laboratory has been fast-paced with new facilities completed or nearing completion Chestnut Ridge/Spallation Neutron Source New East Campus New West Campus

Managed by UT-Battelle for the Department of Energy Presentation_name Aggressive Infrastructure Investments  Joint Institute for Biological Sciences will be operational in November  West Campus landscape enhancements will start  User Housing Facility construction to start this year  Joint Institute for Neutron Sciences design is out for bid (construction to start late this year)  Expanded chillers and electrical infrastructure to feed Tennessee Office Building and Computational Sciences Building 6Managed by UT-Battelle for the Department of Energy Director’s Forum_0709

Managed by UT-Battelle for the Department of Energy Presentation_name Progress on replacing Building 4500 capabilities Multi-Purpose Laboratory Facility will be 150,000 ft 2 –Detailed design scheduled to be initiated in FY08 –Will consolidate existing wet-chemistry laboratories 7Managed by UT-Battelle for the Department of Energy Director’s Forum_0709

Managed by UT-Battelle for the Department of Energy Presentation_name ORNL is seeking funding for serious work on the Central Campus in FY10  188 facilities will be removed (Integrated Facilities Disposition Project)  All of our legacy materials will be addressed  New waste treatment systems will result

Managed by UT-Battelle for the Department of Energy Presentation_name Oak Ridge S&T Park is intended to bring commercialization partners to ORNL  The goal is to provide space where collaborators can interact with us daily  Construction of two facilities scheduled to start in FY08  Will require interaction with emergency management and other support organization to evaluate site impacts

Managed by UT-Battelle for the Department of Energy Presentation_name ORNL provides an open research environment while protecting DOE assets and the public  Our facilities and operations are designed to provide a safe and secure work environment 10  Robust fire, emergency medical, hazardous materials and security response forces are available to respond to any incident that may occur

Managed by UT-Battelle for the Department of Energy Presentation_name ORNL’s objective is to provide an efficient and effective emergency management system Extensive training improves effective emergency response  Training Coordinator and Drill and Exercise Coordinator responsibilities separated and individuals hired to fill these positions  Drills: Conducted 18 drills and 7 exercises  Participated in the DOE-ORO sponsored Wildland Fire and Pandemic Planning Tabletops  Completed the Emergency Response Organization Training Matrix  Qualified 22 personnel as new members of the Emergency Response Organization

Managed by UT-Battelle for the Department of Energy Presentation_name ORNL’s objective is to provide an efficient and effective emergency management system Improvements in processes and protocols enhances operational efficiencies  Enhanced operational efficiencies in emergency management by integrating the Emergency Preparedness and LSS staffs into the Emergency Management Group  Appointed new Laboratory Shift Superintendent Leader  Completed effectiveness reviews of the revisions of the reformatted / revised Emergency Action Level documents  Completed revision of all Hazard Surveys  Completed revisions to 36 EP / LSS procedures or checklists  Completed a comprehensive assessment of the Public Warning Siren System  Completed the triennial SBMS EMS Maturity Evaluation  Fire Department staff increased by one FTE to help with increased inspection, testing, and maintenance  The Fire Department completed the Baseline Needs Assessment  Level 1s for ESH&Q and F&O initiated improvements in the FMT with the appointment of the ESH&Q Operations Manager as the “champion.” Equipment purchased and facility improvements initiated.

Managed by UT-Battelle for the Department of Energy Presentation_name ORNL’s objective is to provide an efficient and effective emergency management system Benchmarking external organizations provides opportunities for improvements and change  100% of corrective actions associated with the 2005 HS-63 Office of Emergency Management Oversight Assessment of ORNL were completed on or ahead of schedule.  Benchmarked the Fulton Co. 911 Services Center to identify areas for improvements in LSS operations. Procured training from RSCC.  ORNL EM provided technical support to BNL in preparation for BNL’s response to the HS-63 visit. The visit also provided excellent insight to emergency management operations at another DOE-SC Laboratory.
