Chile By Alex Salt Homework

Location and Physical Features The country Chile is in the west of South America and it is very thin but quite long. Chile has a lot of mountains but the main mountain range is called the Andes. Rivers that run through Chile are Futaleufú River, Baker river and the Bío Bío River but the largest river In Chile is the Loa River.

The Flag, Currency and Population Chiles’ flag is red on one half and white on the other. It has a blue square in the top left corner with a white star in the middle of it. The currency is Peso. 1 Pound is worth around 26 Peso’s. In Chile there are about 17,094,270. Thats quite a lot of people given there are so many mountains.

Climate and Biomes In Chile there are seven different main climates here are three of them: Dry Arid, Mediterranean and Temperate Oceanic. The Biomes vary quite considerably. In the north it is mainly desert, arid in the centre and semi arid in the south it is home to some of the hottest desserts on earth.

Religions, food and festivals The main religion in Chile is roman catholic. Divorce was illegal until Abortion is actually illegal due to infullence of the church. Meat is very important in Chile. Poultry, beef and pork has doubled in price where as seafood has dropped. Some festivals are Vina del Mar Music Festiva, Festival de la Tirana and We Tripantu

History: Recent and Past Chile was originally under control of the Incas and the nomadic Araucanos in South America. In 1541 Pedro de Valdivia, founded Santiago. Chile won its independence from Spain in 1818 under Bernardo O'Higgins and an Argentinean.

Trade and Industry The minimum wage of a Chilean working a year is about 225,000 Pesos a year which is about 380 US dollars. The main trade industry is copper. It is one of the largest in the world.
