1. Thursday, February 3 rd, 2011 Geography: IN: What country is the farthest south in the Western Hemisphere? Predict it’s climate. Content Objective: Students will locate physical and human features and evaluate their implications for society by describing the various regions of Chile and determining how humans interact with them in a persuasive letter to a friend.

Example: Most of FLORIDA’s borders are defined by ocean

7. Human Characteristics Language= Spanish Religion= Roman Catholic (divorce illegal) History= Many years under military dictatorship- Agusto Pinochet  Many were killed, but country= peaceful & democratic now.

8. Physical Characteristics- North Very dry- desert, mountains, coast  Atacama Desert= driest in world. -Never recorded rain.

10. Physical Characteristics- Central Andes Mountains: HUGE!! Create border between Argentina and Chile -Valleys, rivers, coast. Climate= similar to Colorado

11. Physical Characteristics- Central Aconcagua (22,814) = Tallest mountain in Western Hemisphere (also border of Argentina- guards)

12. Economy/ Business- Central Wine= grown in valleys between mountains. $1.3 billion/ year (5 th largest exporter in world)
