12 Easter Island This island is hundreds of miles off the coast of Chile but it is still a part of the country. Statures like this stand on the island but no one knows why they were built

13 Climate The climate varies from the Northern part of Chile to the Southern part –It is hot and dry in the North –It is cold and wet in the South In the center part of the country, it is green and warm. This is where you find the vineyards.

14 The official language of Chile is Spanish Spanish is not the only language spoken there –English is being taught in the school systems –German→ in the Southern part of the country –Some Indigenous languages like Mapuche

15 Famous People Gabriela Mistral was the 1 st Latin American to win the Noble Prize for Literature in1945 She was from the Elqui Valley Pablo Neruda also won the Noble Prize in 1971 This is his home in Vaparaíso

16 Schools In Chile, students wear uniforms Elementary schools are free to attend High Schools are not always –Public schools are –Private schools costs a lot English is taught in schools

18 Fun at school I worked with about 230 students from Pre-school through 8 th grade. I helped teach English Chile has a National Teacher Day The kids helped the teachers celebrate

19 Main Religion of Chile: Roman Catholic Roman Catholic 89%, Protestant 11% There are many cathedrals that come in many different shapes and sizes

20 Holidays El 18 de septiembre –Like the 4 th of July for the US –Parades, performances and much more La Navidad La Semana Santa and La Pascua –Parades

22 There are many different types of food –Cuezla –Carne de juego –Emanadas –Sea food –Pebre –Chilean Ensalada –Conpetos Chileans like a lot of meat and will have it for most all their meals

23 Sports and Games Soccer or fútbol –Chile is going to the World Cup this year! Rodeo is also popular Kids Games –Emboque –Trompo

24 Money The Chilean pesos are very colorful and each color has a different value It takes 500 Chilean pesos to make $1 US dollar. They use bills and coins

25 Fun Facts Chile has the driest desert in the world –The Atacama Desert Calama is a town in the desert that has never seen rain –This makes it the driest place in the world Penguins live on small islands in Northern Chile.
