All Saints’ Day Sunday 1 st November All Souls’ Day Monday 2 nd November

1 st November All Saints’ Day

All Souls’ Day (2nd November 2015) The day after All Saints Day It was a tradition years ago for the poor to beg for food on this day – in return they promised to pray for the dead. The food they were given was ‘soul cakes’ – a cake with a hole in the middle, representing eternal life The day when we pray for those who have died but are not yet ready to be with Jesus in heaven.

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood and sorry I could not travel both And be one traveller, long I stood and looked down one as far as I could to where it bent in the undergrowth; Then took the other, as just as fair, and having perhaps the better claim because it was grassy and wanted wear; though as for that, the passing there had worn them really about the same. And both that morning equally lay in leaves no feet had trodden black. Oh, I kept the first for another day! Yet knowing how way leads on to way, I doubted if I should ever come back. I shall be telling this with a sigh Somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged in a wood, and I -- I took the one less travelled by, and that has made all the difference. Robert Frost

Dear Lord Today I will make lots of choices. Help me to know the right choice and to always follow your example. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen

Which road are you going to take today?

Eternal rest grant to them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace. Amen
