Mayan Achievements The Mayan had the most amazing achievements of all. The Mayan came up with forms of science, technology, arts, and architecture. They came up with many different mathematic methods, and ways of communication. Also they where gifted in the arts. The Mayan where the best because they had great ideas, and their empire was strong and large.

Science and Technology The Maya made important breakthroughs in mathematics and astronomy. Throughout the Mayan empire, priests studied the sky from observatories. They relied on simple methods, such as peering through a forked stick. They were still able to track the movements of stars and planets very precisely. The Maya used their observations to calculate the solar year. The Maya figured that one solar year is equal to days, they were amazingly precise. These calculations allowed the Maya to create their solar calendar of 365 days. The Maya based their number system on 1s 20s 400s and 20 times 20s.

Arts and Architecture The Maya were very gifted in arts. They painted with colors made from plants and minerals. The Mayan painted Bonampak murals which were found in Chiapas, Mexico. They painted murals of nobles and priests, as well as battle scenes, ceremonies, and human sacrifice. They also constructed upright stone slabs called steles, which were often placed in front of temples. Most steles stood between 5 and 12 feet tall, but some rose as high as 30 feet. The women wove colorful clothes, as we know from steles.
