2 Social Class The social class system when in order like this: Pharaoh, high priests, nobles, merchants, peasant farmers, and slaves. - Most Egyptians were peasant farmers. Many were slaves.

3 Men Men were in charge of working the fields and repairing equipment. Women were in charge of working the fields, taking care of kids, and preparing food.

4 Women - Women in Egypt had much more freedom then women in the rest of the world at this time. They were not just confined to their fields and homes.

5 Writing Hieroglyphics - a form of picture writing developed by Egyptians - Papyrus – a plant that grows along the banks of the Nile that was used as writing material.

6 Rosetta Stone - Rosetta Stone – a flat black stone that had the same message carved in three different forms (hieroglyphics, demotic, and Greek)

8 Advancements Egyptian doctors performed surgeries, diagnosed illnesses, and found cures. - Developed a calendar system based on mapping the stars and charting the movement of planets. This is the basis of our modern day calendar.

9 Advancements Egyptian engineers used geometry to locate the blocks for the pyramids and locate fields before the floods of the Nile. - Wall paintings in tombs and carvings on temples were important art work we have learned from.
