Governor’s Teacher Network Pathway 1 – Professional Development Pathway 2 – Instructional Resources

What is the Governor’s Teacher Network? 450 teachers have been selected from across the state to identify instructional needs, create innovative digital instructional resources and design professional development to support key Race to the Top initiatives in Home Base.

PATHWAY 1 – Professional Development  Teachers in this pathway will be conducting Action Research to find the best practices in teaching.  Research will be shared as a professional development resource.

Pathway 2 – Instructional Resources  Teachers in this pathway will be creating instructional sequences aligned to the NC Standard Course of Study (unit plans, lesson plans, assessment components).  Resources will be produced and available to all NC teachers through Schoolnet in Home Base.

List ways that technology can be used effectively in the classroom…

TWIG STUDIO  I will be using a new online science resource that will allow students to create their own science videos.  Students will be able to demonstrate their understanding of science concepts.  Students will use this resource to help retain and recall science concepts.

Participants…  Our entire 5 th grade here at Stallings.  Several middle schools (6 th – 8 th ) will also be invited to be a part of this research project.

Collecting Data  I will conduct a pre and a post survey with students. The pre-survey will be used to determine how they prefer to learn and how. The post-survey will be used to determine the impact technology had in helping them to learn and reinforce science concepts.

Analyzing Data  Surveys will be used to determine the impact technology has on helping students learn science concepts.
