2 What is Governor Teacher Network?  Initiative between Governor and NCDPI  Application process spring of 2014  450 Teachers selected in North Carolina  Pathway 1-Action Research  Pathway 2-Instructional Resources

3 Pathway 1: Action Research  Attend trainings  Develop an Area of Focus Statement on Topic  Research and summarize professional literature  Develop a Plan of Action for Researching Topic  Implement Action Plan  Create minimum of 3 professional development  Create an online module to be housed in HomeBase

4 Pathway 2: Instructional Resources  Create Instructional sequences that cover 9 weeks  Each unit cover at least 4 lessons  Integrate a variety of multi-media resources accessible through Home Base  Lesson Plan Requirements: student motivation, learning targets, collecting/documentation of evidence of learning, teacher reflection, student reflection

6 Why I chose this topic:  Increase student engagement/motivation  Develop student organizational skills  Create student resource for homework  Parent resource for assisting with homework  Enhance student performance

7 What are Interactive Student Notebooks?  Require use of visual and linguistic intelligences  Systematically organize note-taking  Colorful and creative  Invite students to become engaged learners  Become a portfolio of student learning

9 Data Collection Methods:  Student pre/post attitude surveys about traditional math instruction  Student pre/post tests for unit taught implementing Interactive Student Notebooks  Learning Styles Inventory  Student Engagement Rubric  Teacher Observation Notes on student organization

10 Timeline:  July-August-Review Literature  September-Administer pretest and pre-survey  September-November-Create Interactive Student Notebooks, teach unit, collect data from pre/post test  December-January-Analyze data collected  February-March-Document results of research  April-Present findings from research
