Child Labor Laws Child Labor Laws ensure that our youth have the necessary time to pursue their education and be employed in a safe workspace.

Employment Certificates (commonly called work permits) To ensure job duties do not appear to be in violation of the law and that the form has been properly completed. Conducts inspects of possible law violations. Issues Certificates of Consent for minors in entertainment. Makes child labor presentations in schools, employers, and other interested parties.

Hours of work/age requirements GEORGIA WORK HOUR Minors under the age of 16 may work no more than: ~4 hours on a school day ~ 8 hours on a non school day ~ 40 hours on a non school week Minors under the age of 16 may: ~No work before 6 a.m. ~ No work after 9 p.m. FEDERAL WORK HOUR Minors 14 or 15 years can work: ~3 hours on a school day ~8 hours on a non school day ~ 18 hours on a school week ~40 hours on a non school week Minors 14 and 15 years of age may: ~No work before 7 a.m. ~No work after 7 p.m. ~No work during normal school hours

School Attendance State law requires a minor to obtain an attendance letter from their school saying that: The minor is enrolled in school full-time. The minors school attendance record is in good standing for the currant academic year. The school attendance letter is not required when the minor: Reaches the age of 18. Receives a high school diploma, a GED, a special education diploma, or a certificate of high school completion. Has terminated secondary education and is enrolled in a postsecondary school.

Hazardous Occupations/ Prohibited Occupations 17 years of age and younger(federal law): ~The driving is limited to daytime hours ~The 17 years old holds a state license for the type of driving involved in the job performed. ~The 17 year old has successfully completed a state approved driver education course and has no record of moving violation at the time of hire. ~The automobile or truck is equipped with a seat belt for the driver and any passengers and the employer has instructed the youth that the seat belts must be used when driving the vehicle. ~The automobile or truck does not exceed 6,000 pounds gross vehicle weight. ~Such driving is only occasional and incidental to the 17 year olds employment.

Entertainment Employment Employer requirements: ~Complete an Application for Employment of Minors in Entertainment. ~Ensure application for each minor is legible and completed in its entirety. ~Ensure that the parent or guardian has completed and signed the appropriate portion pf the form. ~Submit application by FAX or mail along with a copy of the script or storyboard.
