2  Child labor laws ensure that our youth have the necessary time to pursue their education and be employed in a safe workplace. WHY ARE THERE CHILD LABOR LAWS?

3  It is required for all minors who haven’t reached their eighteenth birthday.  It needs to be obtained from Georgia School attended or a County School Superintendent. EMPLOYMENT CERTIFICATE

4 Age Requirements  Minors 14 and 15 years of age Hours of Work  3 hours on a school day  8 hours on a non school day  18 hours in a school week  40 hours in a non school week  Not during normal school hours  Not before 7am  Not after 7pm  (evening hours extended to 9pm, June 1 to Labor Day) HOURS OF WORK/AGE REQUIREMENTS

5  The minor needs to be enrolled in school full time.  The minor’s school attendance record needs to be in good standing for the current academic year.  Employers must have a copy of the minor’s employment certificate (work permit) and the attendance letter.  You don’t need the attendance letter if you:  Are 18 or older.  Have received a high school diploma, a GED, a special education diploma, or a certificate of high school completion.  Have terminated secondary education and is enrolled in a postsecondary school. 6  Manufacturing and storing explosives  Motor vehicle driving & outside helper  Coal Mining  Logging & Sawmilling  Power-driven woodworking machines  Exposure to radioactive substances  Power-driven hoisting apparatus  Power-driven metal- forming, punching, and shearing machines  Mining  Slaughtering  Meat-packing  Processing or rendering  Power-driven bakery machines  Power-driven paper products machines  Manufacturing brick, tile, and kindred products  Power-driven circular saws, band saws, and guillotine shears  Wrecking  Demolition and shipbreaking operations  Roofing operations  Excavation operations HAZARDOUS OCCUPATIONS/PROHIBITED OCCUPATIONS

7 Employer Requirements  Complete an Application for Employment of Minors in Entertainment  Ensure Application for each minor is legible and completed in its entirety  Ensure that the parent or guardian has completed and signed the appropriate portion of the form  Submit application by FAX or mail along with a copy of the script or storyboard Hours of Participation  A one-hour break for meals  A one-hour rest and recreation period, if the minor is present for more than four hours  Any additional breaks as may be necessary to ensure the health, safety, and well being of the minor ENTERTAINMENT EMPLOYMENT
