Man Down Clears: Save, Sideline

Man Down Clear – Save

MD Clear Save: Level of Play Man Down Clear off save is suitable for teams of all skill levels. It is very effective because the dominant athletic ball-handler on your man down defense is the short stick midfielder Level of Play (MD Clear Save)

MD Clear Save: Execution Goalie makes the save off the shot. SS will break straight up the center of the field. D1 and D3 will banana peel out to sideline opposite box, D3 at GLE, D2 steps out to box side of the crease and stays home. The goalie will look to SS right away looking for a pass. SS catches ball and “Legs It” up field…… Execution (MD Clear Save)

MD Clear Save: Execution Continued Attack will be set up in MD Triangle. A1 and A3 will be at the Midline sidelines. A2 will be at the center of the offensive restraining line. If SS gets the ball from the goalie, they will fall into “L” Fast Break… Execution (MD Clear Save) Continued

D2 D3 D1 G SS LP MDClearSave: Set Up M1 A3 A2 A1

MD Clear Save: Execution Continued If SS does not get the pass, he will cross the midline. A3 will streak across and receive pass from Goalie and turn up field to clear or pass to M1 who has subbed out of the box. If neither option is open he can pass to Defensemen who has peeled to sideline or “Gilman” the to the far corner of the offensive sideline and the Attackmen can battle for the ground ball. Execution (MD Clear Save) Continued

D2 D3 D1 G SS LP MDClearSave: Set Up M1 A3 A2 A1

MD Clear Save: Final Thoughts Important aspect of this clear is to hit a home run pass off the save, options to continue the clear and allow the attack to and burn time off the penalty. The Defense along with the SS needs to be prepared to “get back” into the hole and defend if possession is lost. A3 needs to get back to the offensive end to help or fight for the GB if it is “Gilman”. MD Clear Save: Final Thoughts

MD Clear - Sideline

MD Clear Sideline: Level of Play MD Clear Sideline is a special clear when the defender starts with the ball on the box side sideline just below the restraining line or in between the restraining and midline and is double teamed. Level of Play (MD Clear Sideline)

D1 D2 M2 G M3 M1 D3 MD Clear Sideline: Execution A2 A1 A3

MD Clear Sideline: Final Thoughts MD Sideline should be used in all dead-ball situations when the ball is on the box side sideline. When using MD sideline, it is imperative that the D takes his time and the DM sprints right away to get the initial sub advantage. D and Goalie need to ensure that they “miss long” to allow the A to go work for the ball. Keys will be the M recognizing when they ball is going to get out of bounds and be turned over to 4LL. Coaches need to have the new M ready to sub in far end of the box when the DM hits our box. MD Clear Sideline: Final Thoughts
