Iran Form of Government: Theocratic Republic or Islamic Republic Head of state: Supreme Leader, a religious authority (Ayatollah) Head of Government: President, but he is subordinate to the Supreme Leader

Elections The Ayatollah is appointed, NOT elected. He is chosen by the Assembly of Experts, which is made up 86 religious scholars. Remains in power until death. People elect the President and the legislative body (called Consultative Council).

Voters in Iran Citizens (??) and older can vote One resources said 15, one said 16, and one said 18. Not sure which is accurate.

Role of Religion in Government Religious leader is head of state and rules based on the Koran. Laws must be in harmony with Koran Summarize the following in your own words: Individuals of all religions are required to observe Islamic codes on dress and gender segregation in public. People in other religions are not allowed to to serve in senior positions in government.

Equality of Education Separate classes for boys and girls Islamic studies are stressed over secular training. Overall, women have equal access to education
