More than $150 billion was invested into African telecoms infrastructure over the past decade

South Africa’s Internet protocol (IP) traffic will quadruple between 2012 and 2017 at a compound annual growth rate of 31% - Cisco

The Federal Government of Nigeria, for example, has recognised this. It recently announced that its targeting 60% telephone penetration in the rural parts of the country by 2018, expects ICT sector to increase its contribution to GDP to 7.5% by 2015 (from 5,6%) through numerous initiatives, employee one million people. Central to this is huge investment to dramatically increase broadband capacity and improve network coverage
