Presentation transcript:

Intensity Dependent Quad Ramps We know that in order to get the most intensity, the quad ramps must be tuned for a particular intensity. The way this is implemented now is to have a separate set of quad ramps for each number of turns in B4. This represents an operational headache, and an opportunity for big scew-ups (e.g. going from 7 to 8 turns could result in pathological ramps being loaded). I suggest that we develop an application to automatically populate the quad ramp tables based on one, or possibly two and tuned ramps.

Ideas to Populate Quad ramps 1.Hand tune one quad ramp (probably the high intensity), then populate other ramps based on measured intensity-dependent tune-shift. 1.Pros – straightforward, only requires one ramp to be tuned. 2.Cons – Only measure coherent tune-shift; maybe not the whole story. 2.Hand tune quad ramps for two intensities, then populate the other ramps based on a linear interpolation between the two. 1.Pros – We typically only care about two intensities (stacking and MiniBooNE), and this allows us to optimize them. 2.Cons – Algorithm a little more complicated. Still doubles the number of ramps which must be maintained by hand. 3.Other suggestions?

Projects on the Table (my impression) Collimator Project: –Design almost complete. –Review almost passed. –Three secondary collimators will be assembled below the high bay and be ready for installation in the summer shutdown. –Most of the effort (at the moment) outside the Booster group. RF Prototype Project –Two 5” aperture cavities being constructed. –Significant machining being done at NuMI and MiniBooNE universities. –Parts rolling in, complete by end of April. Assembly will begin at MI- 60. –Should be ready for installation in summer shutdown (replace RF11 and RF15?)

Projects (cont’d) EDWA Magnet (Wide aperture MI-8) –Ready for some time now –Will take four weeks to install over summer shutdown. Vacuum upgrades –Reggie in charge –Power supplies being modified –Working on controller –Cable pulls complete? –Finished in summer shutdown? ORBUMP issues –Jim in charge –Modifying water system and rebuilding inductors – next few weeks –New SCR network – just upped in priority – summer shutdown? –New capacitors – off the shelf, soon? –New controller – investigating, maybe use MP02 design.

Projects (cont’d) Doglegs –Plan to proceed with Jim’s “anti-septum” pulsed design – meeting next week. Timescale – year or two? –What to do about plans for new MP01, ML01, ML02, etc?? –What about summer? (3 legged dog?, MI-8 dump?) Kickers –Cliff Foster about to fabricate one out of spare ferrites with TD watching. –New ferrite ordered. –Eventually transfer the construction process to TD. TLM system –Ray and Yon Liu had two prototypes in and being tested. –Timescale?

Projects Various notching projects –Resonant notching? –Early notching (chopper at Preacc). –Laser 37 MHz chopping? –Where do these stand? Maintenance issues: –Low voltage power supplies? –Other things which could kill us?
