f Booster Long Straight Corrector Upgrade Technical Status and Schedule for Installation Craig Drennan DOE Tevatron Operations Review March 27, 2007

f 2007 DOE Tevatron Operations Review – C. Drennan 2 Long Straight Corrector Upgrade STATUS AND INSTALLATION PLANS  Goal of the Corrector Upgrade  Corrector Magnet Status  Magnet Stands and Installation Plans  Power Supply Status and Schedule  Power Cables and Rack Installation  Corrector Control Status

f 2007 DOE Tevatron Operations Review – C. Drennan 3 Long Straight Corrector Upgrade  The Long Straight Corrector Upgrade will install 24 new corrector magnets for improved beam control in the vertical plane.  The 24 short straight correctors will be upgraded during the 2008 shutdown.

f 2007 DOE Tevatron Operations Review – C. Drennan 4 Corrector Goals  Specifications for new corrector system:  Position Control: Be able to produce 1 cm of beam motion at highest beam energy (8GeV). Be able to slew position 1 mm/ms up to the middle of the cycle.  Tune Control: Maintain tune arbitrarily close to upper integer resonance throughout cycle. Be able to switch from full field plus to full field minus in ~2 ms in order to rapidly switch tunes at transition time.  Sextupoles Total strength consistent with existing system. Increase slew rate to rapidly switch chromaticity at transition time.

f 2007 DOE Tevatron Operations Review – C. Drennan 5 Meeting the Goals

f 6 Long Straight Corrector Upgrade The first corrector package prototype in test stand at the Magnet Test Facility.

f 2007 DOE Tevatron Operations Review – C. Drennan 7 Long Straight Corrector Upgrade CORRECTOR MAGNET STATUS  Magnet Tests on First Prototype, BMA000  Thermal Tests (Passed), Beams-doc-2713-v1 Test performed at full supply current and maximum specified RMS current. Tested with full, half, and no water flow.  Electrical Parameters (Passed), Beams-doc-2700-v1 Simple measurement of magnet inductance and resistance  DC Field Strengths (Passed), Beams-doc-2711-v1 Meets booster specifications Field strengths measured along with hysteresis  DC Field Shapes (Passed), Beams-doc-2712-v1 Excellent to +/- 25 mm, Good to +/- 38 mm

f 2007 DOE Tevatron Operations Review – C. Drennan 8 Long Straight Corrector Upgrade CORRECTOR MAGNET STATUS  Magnet Tests on First Prototype, BMA000 --continued—  AC Slew Rate and Field Strength (Passed), Beams-doc-2714-v1  Field Harmonics Testing (Passed)  Other Corrector Documents  Coordinate System: Booster Corrector Magnet System Beams-doc-2632-v2  Specification For The Booster Corrector Magnets And Power Supplies, Beams-doc-1881-v5  Current Schedule  Core production well ahead of schedule.  First production coil set arrived 3/15/2007  First production corrector package complete 6/22/2007  24 th corrector package complete 8/27/2007 Detailed Schedule available upon request – cdrennan@fnal.gov

f 9 Long Straight Corrector Upgrade Status of BPM’s  New BPM's have been designed and will be available for installation. A late design revision was made in Feb. 2007 Reference Jim Crisp, “Proposed Booster BPM Geometry”, Beams-doc-2221-v1

f 2007 DOE Tevatron Operations Review – C. Drennan 10 Long Straight Corrector Upgrade MAGNET STANDS AND INSTALLATION PLANS  New Stands are being design for the Corrector installation.  22 Locations use the standard design.  2 Locations require their own design.

f 2007 DOE Tevatron Operations Review – C. Drennan 11 Long Straight Corrector Upgrade  Standard Installation

f 2007 DOE Tevatron Operations Review – C. Drennan 12 Long Straight Corrector Upgrade  New Corrector Support

f 2007 DOE Tevatron Operations Review – C. Drennan 13 Long Straight Corrector Upgrade Special Case 1: L3 Dogleg  The new corrector package will mount between the dogleg magnets and the BEX magnet will move to where the current corrector is now.

f 2007 DOE Tevatron Operations Review – C. Drennan 14 Long Straight Corrector Upgrade Special Case 2: Injection Girder

f 2007 DOE Tevatron Operations Review – C. Drennan 15 Long Straight Corrector Upgrade  Mechanical Design Schedule
