MONTGOMERY COLLEGE RADIOLOGIC TECHNOLOGY INFORMATION SESSION

THE PROGRAM Accredited by the Joint Review Committee of the Education of Radiologic Technologists (JRCERT) Credit program with an award of an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree Graduates of the program staff the majority of the metropolitan hospitals

PROGRAM START THE PROGRAM BEGINS IN THE THIRD WEEK OF MAY EVERY YEAR QUALIFIED APPLICANTS WILL RECEIVE THEIR LETTER OF ACCEPTANCE IN LATE MARCH OR EARLY APRIL

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS Reference:  Montgomery College student  Separate Application to RT Program  Application deadline MARCH 1  Completion of EN101, Eligible to take a Math Foundation course and completion of Biology 107  TEAS placement test  27 spaces  All students accepted into the program are required to have a criminal background check and may be required to take an alcohol or drug testing test based on clinical site placement.

DSS ACCOMMODATIONS Any student who may need an accommodation due to a disability, please make an appointment to see me during my office hour. In order to receive accommodations, a letter from Disability Support Services(R-CB122; G- SA175; or TP-ST120) will be needed. CHANGE TO ADMISSION REQUIREMENT please refer to TEAS handout Prospective students will be required to take the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) in order to be considered for a seat in the Radiologic Technology Program. TEAS test assess reading, math, science and English skills.

TEAS CONT. With the TEAS test as part of the application requirement, ranking candidates by GPA would no longer be used. However, a minimum GPA of 2.5 would still be required Students would ranked by TEAS scores Those students who have appropriate TEAS scores and have all of the priority classes and have indicated radiography as their first choice would be given first preference.

Radiologic Technology Curriculum fourth page of packet 70 credits Successful completion of classes that place a student in a priority placement are: HI 125, BI204 and BI205 However advised to take as many gen ed courses prior to entering program Must complete all gen ed classes to graduate from program

Curriculum practice sheets Grading scale: A B C Must receive a 78 or higher to successfully complete an RT class. Cannot advance to the next semester unless ALL classes have been successfully completed.

Expenses Latest expenses can now be found on the RT web page The program now begins in summer-books to be purchased for RT 119 will now be purchased in summer. In addition, students will have to purchase textbooks/workbooks for RT 111 in the summer.

Estimated expenses In addition please consider the following costs: hospital parking expenses, transportation expenses, medical physical expense (one time), yearly TB tests if applicable, logbooks (one time expense)

Duties of a radiographer Pages 6 and 7 as denoted by the US Dept of Labor Simplified version!!! Lift and move patients and accessories Coordinate movement of equipment, such as portable machines and accessories Utilize the skills needed to perform procedures with “Standard Precautions” when working with all types of patients Give oral instructions clearly to patients, peers and healthcare personnel Hear audible cues and warnings of imaging equipment and life support devices Utilize the sense of touch in order to provide patient care and position patients for radiographic examinations Evaluate images distinguishing between black,white and shades of grade tones. Utilize interpersonal skills to handle patients with physical or emotional trauma

CLINICAL COMPONENT First year Summer- RT hours at assigned clinical site Fall- RT 120 hours Tuesdays and Thursdays at assigned clinical site 7:30-4:00 = 240 hours Spring –RT hours Tuesdays and Thursdays at assigned clinical site 7:30-4:00 = 240 hours Summer - RT hours Mondays through Fridays 7:30-4:00 for 10 weeks = 400 hours

CLINICAL COMPONENT Second years Fall- RT hours Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays 7:30-4:00 = 360 hours Spring -RT hours Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays 7:30-4:00 = 360 hours TOTAL CLINICAL HOURS = 1600 RT 240 (registry review class) Spring Students graduate in May of their final year.

ARRT PRE-APPLICATION OF ELIGIBILITY FOR CERTIFICATION page 8 ARRT pre-application only necessary for individuals who have been involved in a criminal proceeding or who have been charged with or convicted of a crime. This pre- application attempts to avoid a delay in processing application for certification by the ARRT. STUDENTS WITH THE ABOVE REFERENCED SITUATIONS MAY STILL APPLY TO THE RT PROGRAM AT MC. HOWEVER THE RT PROGRAM DOES NOT GUARANTEE THAT A STUDENT MAY TAKE THE ARRT REGISTRY IF STUDENT HAS BEEN INVOLVED IN THE ABOVE REFERENCED SITUATION. THAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THE ARRT PRE-APPLICATION
