Trees and Forests – Human Use of the Forest: Past, Present and Future Science 6

Summary of Human Uses and Human Impact of the Forests Natural: something produced by nature – not artificial Value: the real worth of something, usefulness, importance Past Uses of the Forest: mainly survival such as hunting for food, medicine, snowshoes for transportation

Present Uses of Forests Manufacturing Homes Jobs Recreation Products Medicine Food Tools Fuel

Summary of Human Uses and Human Impact of the Forests Need: basic human needs to survive; food, water, shelter Want: something not necessary for survival; “I want a doll” What would happen if there were no more trees?: oxygen would be extremely low; habitat for animals, insects destroyed; food from trees would no longer be available

Summary of Human Uses and Human Impact of the Forests Not all uses of trees and forests by humans is bad!!: research to make sure plants, trees and animals are healthy; some trees need to be removed so others can grow; trees need to be used so we can meet our basic needs, and other needs we have become accustomed to such as pencils and paper. Alberta uses its forests mostly for: pulp and paper industry
