2. What do people need to survive?

3. People have similar needs as animals.

4. All living things need clean water to live and grow
All living things need clean water to live and grow. People, animals and plants all need clean water.

5. People work to find clean drinking supplies by digging wells for groundwater. We treat water found in lakes and rivers so we can drink it. We can even take out the salt in ocean water.

6. People, like animals, need food to survive.

7. People grow plants for food. Vegetables and fruits nourish people.

8. People grow plants that give people grains
People grow plants that give people grains. Rice and wheat are grown from plants.

9. People eat meat which comes from animals.

10. People raise animals for food. Cows give milk and chickens lay eggs.

11. People also hunt animals for food.

12. People need fresh clean air to breathe.

15. People need shelter. Shelter protects people from the heat of the sun or the cold temperatures of winter.

Shelters or homes are made from different materials. They can be made in different ways, too.

18. People need to protect themselves from extreme temperatures(too hot or too cold). People can not survive for very long in extremely cold temperatures or extremely hot temperatures without shelter.

19. People need a system to remove waste
People need a system to remove waste. Waste removal keeps people healthy.
