Section 10 – 1 Space Figures & Nets Objective: To recognize nets of space figures

Polyhedron: Face: Edge: Vertex: A three-dimensional figure whose surfaces are polygons Face: Each polygon surface Edge: A segment formed by the intersection of two faces Vertex: A point where three or more edges intersect

Net: Cube Rectangular Prism Triangular Prism Cylinder Cone Pyramid A two-dimensional pattern that you can fold to form a three-dimensional figure Cube Rectangular Prism Triangular Prism Cylinder Cone Pyramid

Example 1 Identifying Nets Is the pattern a net for a cube? If so, name the letters that will appear on opposite faces. A)

Euler’s Formula: The number of faces (F), vertices (V), and edges (E) of a polyhedron are related by the formula F + V = E + 2.

Example 3 Using Euler’s Formula A) Count the number of faces and edges. Then use Euler’s Formula to find the number of vertices in the polyhedron at the right.

B) Use Euler’s Formula to find the number of edges on a polyhedron with 8 triangular faces.

C) Use Euler’s Formula to find the number of edges of a polyhedron with 6 faces and 8 vertices.
