Solid Figures Solids are 3 dimensional or 3D. Solids with flat surfaces that are polygons are called POLYHEDRONS. There are two types of Polyhedrons called PRISMS and PYRAMIDS. Remember: Three-dimensional figures have length, width, and height. They are also called solid geometric figures.

Solid Figures The 2-dimesional surfaces are called FACES. Two faces intersect in a segment called an EDGE. Three or more edges intersect at a point called a VERTEX.

RALLY ROBIN : Turn to your shoulder partner. Take turns completing the sentences with the correct term. The 2-dimesional surfaces are called ________. Two faces intersect in a segment called an ________. Three or more edges intersect at a point called a ________. Solids are _________________ Two types of Polyhedrons are ___________ and ____________

Check Your Answers: The 2-dimesional surfaces are called FACES. Two faces intersect in a segment called an EDGE. Three or more edges intersect at a point called a VERTEX. Solids are _3 dimensional or 3D__ Two types of Polyhedrons are PRISMS and PYRAMIDS

Quick Draw: Draw a 3 dimensional shape Label the following terms Face Edge Vertex
8
Check Your Work: face vertex edge
9
PRISMS A solid figure with two parallel faces called BASES. The two bases are connected by polygons called LATERAL FACES. Bases Lateral Faces
10
PRISMS TRIANGULAR PRISM RECTANGULAR PRISM –CUBE- PENTAGONAL PRISM
11
PYRAMIDS A solid figure with one base and the lateral faces meet at a common point called the VERTEX. Base Lateral Faces Vertex

PYRAMIDS TRIANGULAR PYRAMID -TETRAHEDRON- RECTANGULAR PYRAMID PENTAGONAL PYRAMIDS
13
TIMED PAIR SHARE: Discuss the difference. How are pyramids different than prisms? How are they alike?

CONES AND CYLINDERS CIRCULAR PRISM -CYLINDER- CIRCULAR PYRAMID -CONE-

Let’s take a closer look: Solid shapes and their nets A net is a flat figure that can be folded to form a closed, three- dimensional object. This type of object is called a geometric solid.
