7.1 Three- Dimensional Figures I can classify and draw three-dimensional figures.

Three-Dimensional  A figure that does not lie in a plane.  Is not flat  One flat surface on a 3D solid is called a face.  Each segment formed by the intersection of two faces (where two faces meet) is called an edge.

Prism  3D figure with 2 parallel and congruent polygonal faces, called bases.  Other faces are rectangles.  Height is the length of the segment joining the two bases.

Cubes  A 3D shape where all faces are squares.

Cylinder  A 3D figure with two circular bases

Pyramid  Has triangular faces that meet at a single point.  That point is called a vertex.  Has a base that is a polygon  A polygon is a 2D shape made with straight lines.  Pyramids are named by the shape of the base.

Cones  One circular base and one vertex.  The height is the distance between the vertex and the center of the base.

Sphere  3D figure such that it is the set of all points in space that are the same distance from a center point.  Shape of a ball

Name the Figure  Name figures 1, 2, and 3  1= triangular prism  2 = cone  3 = cylinder

Drawing Prisms  Draw a polygon  Draw a congruent polygon  Connect vertices using dashed lines for hidden edges

Assignment  P. 254 odds #7-25
