Speak Up is a national initiative of Project Tomorrow, the nation’s leading education nonprofit organization dedicated to the empowerment of student voices in education. Project Tomorrow’s mission is to ensure that today’s students are prepared to become tomorrow’s leaders, innovators and engaged citizens of the world. The Speak Up National Research Project annually polls K-12 students, parents and educators about the role of technology for learning in and out of school and represents the largest collection of authentic, unfiltered stakeholder voice on digital learning. In fall 2013, Project Tomorrow surveyed more than 403,000 stakeholders, including: K-12 Students (325,279) Teachers & Librarians (32,151) Parents (in English & Spanish) (39,986) School/District Administrators (4,530) Community Members (new this year!) (1,346) About the participating schools & districts: 9,005 schools and 2,710 districts 90% public schools – 10% private/parochial/charter/other 32% urban / 31% rural / 37% suburban 30% school wide Title 1; 43% majority minority school All 50 states + DC + Guam + DODEA schools

 Students are using digital tools both in and out of the classroom.  Students are looking for a classroom environment that more closely replicates the way they are using digital tools outside of school to support greater communications and collaboration.  Students would like for their schools to let them use their own mobile devices within instruction to support their schoolwork. Websites/e-Portfolios Students can create a website to demonstrate their understanding of course content. The website could also be formatted to serve as an ePortfolio of student work throughout the unit/semester.  Students and teachers can create websites/eportfolios for a variety of assignments/assessments- research projects, current events, virtual field trips, presentations, literature reviews, etc.  Students can create an e-Portfolio of their work throughout the year using a Google Site. ePortfolios can include student writing samples, copies of various assignments, pictures/videos as evidence of student accomplishments, student journals, etc.
